staining agarose gels

2 questions.  Why is it necessary (or is it?) to dry an agarose protein 
gel before Coomassie staining it?  Is it possible to silver stain agarose 
IEF gels?  If so, would standard protocols for silver staining PAG be 
appropriate for agarose?  If not, what sort of modifications need to be 
made?
