Hi:
I believe the Ambion T7 invitro transcription kit uses a published technique
in which HEPES buffer is used in the reaction instead of Tris.  I can scroung
up the citation in a week or so.  The idea is that you need a higher 
buffering capacity to keep the pH in a reasonable range after all that 
transcription. (You also need more NTP's, or 'goodies' as my advisor calls them.)
