We have had good luck with Amresco (phone 800-829-2805) phenol coming
as a saturated liquid, stable for a year (how is this?), and around
$53 for 400 ml. We can no longer easily distill the stuff- we have
also had good luck with the crystalline forms mentioned by others.

I would second the vote for roller bottles and no longer find them less
convenient for washing the blots.
