Methyl Salicylate and B-gal

I read that if you store B-gal histochemically stained Xenopus tissues in
clearing solutions that the blue stain will fade over a few days(Methods
in Cell Biology 1991 Volume 36, Chapter 20 pg 372, by Peter D. Vize et al).
I've found that the best thing to do is store my samples in methanol both
before and after I look at them/ photograph them.
