since the manufacturer of our thermocycler recommends that we use mineral oil, I don't believe it is bad for the cycler block. They did say to make sure that the block didn't look like the Exxon Valdez spill! And they recommended using oil only once every 2 or 3 times. Our cyler is made by MJ Research. gerri
