Blue-white selection

Some time ago I read somewhere an article describing how discrimination
between blue and white colonies in alpha-complementation could be
speeded up by, as far as I can remember, briefly exposing the plates
to chloroform or toluene vapor. But now, when I want to use it, I cannot
remember where I saw it, and I am unable to find it by Medline searches.
Could anybody with a better memory than me please post me the reference?
