As shown by David Gelfand, Taq possesses a polymerization-
dependent 5'-3' exonuclease activity which can degrade DNA
strands ahead of the enzyme during strand copying. Taq is,
therefore, a repair type polymerase like E. coli Pol I and
can strand displace.
