Hi sequencers,

Concerning the thread about taping sequencing gels or pouring them
without tape.

I found a student once using 3MM for spacers and with 2000V on exposed
metal clamps on the sequencing rig. I've also seen exposed high
voltage on taped gel rigs where the tape was torn under a clamp or
the clamp was in contact with the ears above the tape.

The commercial rigs are generally good about forcing you to keep
the gel inside an insulating shield. But if you're still using
old style Studier devices, please check out the clamps and the sides
the gel with a voltmeter and get some plastic under the clamps if
you're leaking voltage.
