Total RNA v mRNA for differential display

I think the suggestion by Liang and Pardee to use total RNA rather than mRNA fordifferential display is because depending on how yoy isolate your mRNA you may 
have contaminating oligo dT in your sample which would compete with the anchoredoligo dTs. If you are sure there is no oligo dT in your mRNA sample I don't 
imagine total RNA works any better than mRNA.
