Dear Jurgen, I suggest you to have a look on a paper Gene(1991), 99,249- where it was shown that neo-r gene from Tn5 is a powerful transcriptional silencer in eucaryotic cells. Since then ive seen at least one paper confirming this observation. Silencing effect in this work was not position-dependent. best wishes Andrei Popov
