I was afraid I was being a little too vague. sorry.  Let me try again.
I'm not looking for components of cascades or membrane receptors; I'm looking
for, say, proteins
whose primary function is unrelated to gene activation, but can be involved
in activation via, e.g., association with a partner that acts as an adaptor
allowing modulation of gene activity.
