autoclaving and PEG

: We once had fungal growth in conc KOH that could be transferred from bottle
: to bottle and appeared to grow.

: I think also that some Staphylococcus (certainly some spores of bugs) can
: survive autoclaving.

   Staphylococcus do not make spores, and I am quite sure they do not 
survive autoclaving.  Some of the most thermotolerant spores around,
Bacillus thermo-something-or-another, are used to test your
autoclave -- if they don't germinate, your autocalve is working!
