Which lipofection reagent?

We currently use Promega "Transfectam" to transfect, stably and transiently,
3T3, mouse myoblast and several nonadherent cell lines eg Daudi. It works
reasonably well giving approx 1 per cent blue cells in transient assay on
3T3 from 10ul Transfectam and 5ug plasmid DNA. Mouse myoblast (C2C12) howevr
cannot be incubated in the absence of serum as they differentiate under those
conditions. Transfection in the presence of serum gives maybe 0.1% positive
cells.
Is there a better system? Gibco make claims for 80% blue 3T3 cells using
lipofectAMINE. Lower numbers result if transfection is done in the presence
of serum, but presumably this is a cell-type specific effect? The details
supplied to me suggest that in CHO cells, Lipofectin and LipofectACE are
better in the presence of serum. Then of course there is the Boehringer
product, DOTAP which they cliam is insensitive to serum - but what is its
overall activity compared with Gibco and Promega?
Any experiences out there?
Thanks
