Try 0.5 ug/ml EtBr.  Be aware that EtBr migrates towards the - electrode.
So if you only put it in the gel and not in the buffer, there may not be
any on the bottom of your gel.  Also, you can always test if staining
was a problem by restaining the gel after the run in 0.5 ug/ml EtBr.
