Using Southern blotting and hybridization analysis, if conditions are
optimal, one can detect most single-copy genes in mammalian genomic digests
of about ten micrograms total. I think this comes out to be a sensitivity on
the order of zeptomoles (or 10E-21 mol). Pretty sensitive, I'd say.
