I got around the gel dryer - pump corrosion problem by using a home made
aspirator based vacuum source. It's basically an aspirator connected to
the output side of a sump pump. The sump pump sits inside a small
container of water and thus keeps pumping the same water. The pump can
provide a vacuum of 29 mmHg and dries a 0.4 mm sequencing gel in less than
an hour. The best part is that you can build one for less than $200. I can
provide details for those interested.
