Autoclaving DNA and contamination

Duncan,

Autoclaving is necessary to kill organisms which may later multiply and 
"spill their guts". Fortunately, this is the primary  source of 
unwanted DNA, and the process serves to preemptively "decontaminate" 
PCR mixtures.
