Thiazol (acridine) orange for PCR?

Can thiazol orange (= acridine orange?) be used in place of ethidium
bromide to see if a double standed DNA product has been produced?
It would be nice to see if dsDNA amplifications worked by adding a
dye to the product tube and comparing to a blank rather than running
out on a gel or blotting and probing.

Many thanks.
