histone/rRNA primers

I'd like to obtain some primers for a highly conserved nuclear gene,
probably a ribosomal RNA or histone, for the purpose of testing DNA
extracts from a broad spectrum of animals for PCR amplifyability,
presence of PCR inhibitors, etc.  Does anyone have a reference citing
such a primer pair handy?
