Last summer I tried out most of the major brands of pipettors, and I
decided that Finnpipettes (and the virtually identical Stratapets from
Stratagene) were the best. They're easy to set the volume on, easy to
calibrate, and the lightest in weight. Since then, Finnpipette has come
out with a new design; I don't know what's different about it, except that
the old ones were a lovely chocolate brown and the new ones are hideous
combinations of clashing colors. Marsh Biomedical (phone 800 445-2812 or
716 654-4800) is selling the old brown Finnpipettes as their "store
brand"; I haven't actually peeled up the Marsh label to see if it says
Finnpipette underneath, but they'll freely admit that's who makes them.
The latest price I have is $134 apiece.
My lab has several sets of Finnpipettes and one set of Marsh, and we've
had absolutely no problems.
