A grinding problem

Depending on the size of your samples a simple tissue homogenizer might
work best. These allow you to grind tissue samples with sterile tips in
sterile tubes to avoid any DNA cross-over problems that you will inevitably
run into with reusable hardware like mortars and pestels. If your shrimps
are small enough you can avoid all grinding by doing overnight proteinase K
digestions. I have used this technique for extracting genomic DNA from
hunks of mollusc tissue in 1.5 ml epi tubes. This yields plenty of DNA.
