Degenerate primers

Hi. A friend of mine had the same problem a few weks ago. I had been reading 
Barnes' PNAS article so I suggested him to use a proof-reading polymerase 
instead of Taq Pol lacking the 3'-5' proof-reading ability in the hope of 
correcting possible mistakes at the 3'-end of the degenerate primers. It 
worked beautifully. He used Perkin Elmer's UlTma Pol.
