a question was raised about RNA purification by glass binding.

Although RNA is reputed not to stick to glass fines in sodium iodide, it does
adhere when other chaotropes are used. Schleicher and Schuell has a glass
binding kit for RNA using sodium perchlorate. Others use guanidine thiocyanate.

These methods will bind total nucleic acid. For those wishing to purify RNA
only, the DNA has to be removed by some other method before binding (e.g.
by acid phenol extraction.).
