Extraction of DNA from agarose gels

Aren't low sulfur the best grades of agarose for most procedures involving
extraction of band from gel? ... at least in my hands this appears to be
the case ... regardless of electrophoresis buffer used (TAE or TBE).

Any consensus on this from fellow bionauts?

ps, BTW, the freeze-thaw-squeeze methods work great ... yield good'nuf
quality DNA for lilg'ns, sequencing, PCR, RE digests, transformation, in
vitro transcription ... without need for subsequent messy phenol/CHCl3
ext'ns & alc ppt'n ... yields are good too (at least 50%).

... anybody seen latest TIBS (Sept '94, pg 388)? ... Paul Hengen reviews
methods for DNA recovery from agarose gels (with citations!) ... nice work
Paul! 8^)

all best,
