PCR from serum

We are screening families with hereditary melanoma for mutations in
p16. Some of the affected members are deceased and all we have is
serum. We would like to be able to amplify the gene from the serum.
Does anyone have any experience in performing PCR from stored serum? As
far as I know the cells have been spun out.

Thank You,
