DNA Fingerprinting from hair

It's very difficult to completely digest the hair - but not to worry! Most
of the DNA is in the root of the hair. Forcibly plucked hairs contain
about 100 to 500 ng of DNA in the tissue at the root. Plucked hairs
without tissue contain about 10 to 80 ng DNA. Shed hairs (telogen phase)
have little or no intact genomic DNA.
