DH5alpha cells and MDCK cells

I have heard recommendations that DH5alpha cells are good for putting plasmids
into.  ATCC lists DH5 with the ATCC#53686 but not specifically alpha.  Is this
the appropriate cell line?

Also, they list several lines of MDCK cells.  Is there an appropriate line of 
these for assays of anti-viral activity?
