DNA Footprinting ( using DNAase)

HI,

Has anyone out there ever down DNA footprinting with DNAase 1 and
has a reference for a good protocol that will work?

Also, when running a control lane with the DNA sequence of the
probe alone, do you need to the sequencing reactions using
Maxam-Gilbert method? or is it OK to do
it the Sanger way??
I was wondering if that made a difference or not..

I appreciate any input I can get..
