Screening expression library

Is it possible to screen a lambda zap library in suspension? We have a 
sea urchin cDNA library and want to detect a protein with a cross linking
probe. We're thinking to do at least the primary screen on supernatant from
an induced culture.

Any references or first-hand wisdom greatly appreciated.
