Unfortunately the above described set up will only work for photos, 
autoradiographs or electrophoresis gels (Coomassie, Silver staining).
For EtBr you need coupling to a UV illuminator. But you may buy a CCD
camera and grabber (see above) from specialist photo shops.
A first step towards handling of e.g. tif files is paint shop pro,
which is free/share ware an can be obtained at various places on the net.
BTW, any good more advanced programme for handling , molecular weight
and integration (not bandlead) of DNA/protein gels?
