RE: isolation of RNA from cell cultures:

The original query described an RNA isolation method that seemed to be 
the acid guanidinium method of Chomczynski and Sacchi.

EXCEPT:  the chaotrope in use was said to be guanidine hydrochloride.

I believe the AGPC method calls for guanidine thiocyanate.  This may be 
the critical factor.  Try it.
