		Job Opportunities in Bioinformatics

Two three-year bioinformatics positions are available to develop the
ISPMB-Plant Gene Registry's database. This is an international programme
supported by the European Community and the world's major databases to
regularise the gene names in all photosynthetic organisms for the
benefit of the scientific community.

A prototype database can be accessed over the Internet

A Research Scientist is required to develop and manage the database.
The responsibilities of the position would involve programming, curation of
the database, data processing and developing links to other databases. An
honours degree in one of the Biological Sciences, Mathematics or Computing
with at least a further 3 year's work/research experience is required.
Experience of UNIX programming using C and PERL would be advantageous and
familiarity with plant systems would be desirable but not essential.

A Reseach Assistant is required to manage data acquisition and
processing. Familiarity with plant systems and an interest in computer
applications and databases -- e.g., AceDb -- would be advantageous. An
honours degree in one of the Biological Sciences, Mathematics or Computing
is required.
