Are your hooked up over appletalk (localtalk) or through ethernet? Sounds
like it might be appletalk. We found the same thing when trying to print
graphics files over appletalk going to an HP 4 plus printer with 8 megs of
ram using either quadra's or PPC's. Switching over to ethernet fixed it.
We are using Faralon's etherwave transceivers with Macs builtin ethernet
(Ethertalk) over 10baseT cables. Now small graphics files (less than 1
meg) print almost instantaneously and big files (greater than 8 megs) take
just a short time to compose and send.
Hope that helps.
