Reference for the toothpick PCR technique?

Re:

How necessary is this? To get a lot of ß-actin cDNA for working up a 
quantitation method we just centrifuged the PCR product in an Amicon Centricon 
10 or 30KDa cut-off device and used that. Seems to be O.K. Were we being 
horribly naive, or lucky?
