Pre-flashing films for ECL??

Hi there, I would like to get the collective wisdom on the requirements
for pre-flashing films for quantitation of ECL signals.  Does pre-flashing
improve linearity of signal?  I would like to quantitate some western
blots.  Any other info or discussion of western quantitation would be
appreciated.

Also, if pre-flashing of films is important, how does one go about
creating a flash with the correct exposure?  Are there commercial
pre-flash units available?
