GST-Fusion proteins

I have a GST fusion protein that I want to run on a preparative gel.
Two questions:

1) Do I prepare the cells in the same way as for a miniprotein gel, only
scaled up?
2) once I've run the gel, how do I get the protein out of the gel?

I would appreciate any suggestions you may have.
