Re: EtBr staining of formamide gels Formamide reacts with EtBr so you cannot stain the gels directly. You need to wash out the formamide first (eg 30 min with 0.1M ammonium acetate, preferably 2 washes). Then it should stain ok, although the intensity is always less than for DNA because of RNA being single stranded. Ian Ross
