I have had reproducible results detecting single copy genes using the Boehringer Mannheim 'Genius' non-radioactive system for Southern analysis. I have also found that this method works well for slot-blots and colony hybridizations. I am currently trying the 'Genius' system for Northern blots and DNA sequencing.
