HELP: streaks in isozyme electrophoresis

I'm using electrophoresis on cellulose acetate to detect genetic
variation in Saxifraga oppositifolia, an arctic, perennial herb. 
I'm having problems with streaks that obscure some of the zones
with activity. I suppose this is due to phenolic compounds, but
using extraction buffers with, e. g., PVP, PVPP or BSA doesn't
help. Has anyone else had similar problems, and maybe even has
some clue on what to do?
