DNA fingerprinting

Dear Netters,

I am interested in getting information on the different processes used 
for DNA finger printing for the purpose of determining heredity and 
confirming off-spring's parents.  Any information on this subject or 
person-contacts particularly w.r.t. animals e.g. horses, pigs and cows.

I understand that horse fingerprinting is done at U. California - Davis.  
If you know of anyone please let me know.
