IRES is Internal Ribosome Entry Site, which is common for
enteroviral RNA. Since enteroviruses do NOT have Cap structure
at the 5'-extrimity in their RNAs, IRES (this region forms
complex 2ndary structure) located at 5' region of their RNAs
functions as ribosomal recognition. HCV and some other viruses
also utilize IRES structure.
