I have acheived good results when sequencing PCR products by following this simple rule: For each 300bp of PCR product to be sequenced use 100ng of template. If for example you had 500bp of product to be sequenced I would round it up to the nearest figure, eg 200ng of template. I always use 0.8 pmole of primer per reaction. Good luck.
