  The reason is much the same as for any other E. coli strain lacking
chloramphenicol resistance.  The strains BL21(DE3)pLysS and BL21(DE3)pLysE
are on the other hand Chloramphenicol resistant because of the pLys
plasmids they carry.  Not a very big mistery either :-)
