Yes, I routinely do add Sodium Azide in the primary ab and re-use it for
several times without any problems (in library screening and Western). I
would think it essential to prevent bacterial (growth) contamination if you
have pre-absorbed your serum with E. coli. As azide inhibits HRP activity,
you have to wash your blots thoroughly before the secondary HRP conjugate
is added.
