Hi, I am trying to find out how CTAB (cetyl trimethylammonium bromide) works in plant DNA extraction procedures to remove polysaccharides. Does it bind them? Generally, the methods use a chloroform extraction right after a high temp treatment with CTAB. Why? Is it necessary for the CTAB to work or is it to eliminate proteins?
