Proving (subcloned) A549 cells are truly A549 cells

I believe that I have subcloned an A549 cell line that has some
different characteristics (increased cell cycle and decreased
adherence, for example) from the newly purchased ATCC A549 cells.
How do I prove (for publication purposes) that the subcloned cells
are (were?) truly A549 cells?
Southern blotting/RFLP analysis has been suggested - would this be
enough?
Any ideas/approaches or references of others who have done similar
tasks would be greatly appreciated
