SSCP gel smiling problem

Does anyone have any advice on how to reduce smiling in SSCP gels? I am 
using a BRL sequencing gel box and have very significant smiling of my 
bands in the bottom half to third of my gel. It happens if I run the 
gels at room temp or at 39 degrees C. I am running out a digested 32P 
labelled PCR product on the gel.

Also I am wondering if people have any experience comparing isotopic 
SSCP vs. non-isotopic SSCP. I would prefer to use a non-isotopic method  
such as silver stain if possible.
