hi Duncan,
 a colleague of mine doing long range genomic PCR (upper limit at 20kb in his 
hands) warned me about machines that use oil overlay... they seem NOT to work 
in their hands...

ps. they essentially use the Cheng et al. (1994) method... Tth spiked with 
Vent and two step cycling with progressive elongation of extension step...
