Separation dsDNA and ssDNA

Hi,

     Does anyone know of a good method to separate dsDNA and ssDNA other than
hydroxyapitite columns ?   

  Hydroxyapitite gave very poor DNA recovery.  The column was run at 60 C and
several different buffer concentrations used, but to no avail.  I need to
separate my double stranded gap heteroduplexe DNA from my left over ssDNA.
 Any suggestion appreciated but the cheaper the better.  University funds are
always low.
