Paul,

I thought the same thing, but then I visited their homepage. They
have a little newsletter there in which they describe pellet paint.
It sounds to me that it is a fluorophore coupled to a carrier.
(they call it a "polymeric carrier"). They also state it can interfere
with automatic sequencing because of interference with rhodamine labeled
